Take Two Interactive: A Tale in Money Induced Lunacy

As many of you may now know GTA Online has a big money maker for Take Two and Rockstar promoting them to create many new and interesting updates. I recently played some of the new “Gun Running” update and I actually quite enjoyed it. However today we are not here to talk about how good GTA Online actually is, we’re here to discuss Take Two’s decision to ban mods. (Specifically the OpenIV modding program)

The GTA V Community Response

As you may have expected, the community didn’t react well. Steam users quickly began writing bad reviews on the official steam page causing the game to go from a “Overwhelmingly Positive” review rating to a shabby “Mixed” rating in only a few days.

The initial release of the mod ban came as as a major shock to most players, simply because Rockstar studios actually supported mods for years. Fans and players of the GTA franchise view the Open IV ban as a result of extreme corporate greed, going as far as to form petitions against Take Two interactive’s decision.

Rockstar has released a statement regarding the Issue:

“Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately, OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody.  We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players”

Hopefully within the following week, hopefully Take Two will realize it fucked up and continue to allow Open IV to operate.
