Be it in time for Comic Con or not, Sega have revealed a brand new trailer for the upcoming Yakuza Kiwami. A remake of the 2005/6 (depending on your region) PS2 classic that started it all. Or at least it did plot-wise until Yakuza 0 was released. Anyhow, the trailer begins by showing off the four fighting styles available to Kiryu in the game: Brawler, Rush, Beast, and Dragon. All of which carry over from 0 which started the trend of switching fighting styles, something that wasn’t a feature in the original Yakuza.
As the trailer continues, the many distractions of Kamurocho (the series’ main setting) are given time in the spotlight. These include shopping, eating at restaurants, partaking in various substories, and conversing with ‘sexy’ hostesses. Minigames continue to lead the way with multiple card games, the claw machine, mahjong, karaoke, pool, and even arcade style catfighting. It wouldn’t be Yakuza without something along those lines; lets just hope it’s better than 0’s version.
All things considered, Yakuza Kiwami is shaping up to be a great addition to the series and an excellent remake. We’ll be sure to bring you our impressions around the time of the games launch and you can see what we thought of the series’ prequel, 0, here. What did you think of the trailer?
